Two Things, and a Picture

By Dave Klecha | February 25, 2008

That makes a post, right? Right.

Okay, thing one: I’m pretty bummed that Juno did not win Best Picture last night. Hooray for the writing award, (though Nick Mamatas was less than impressed, though he usually is) but I was hoping to see it win Best Picture. I actually haven’t seen any of the other nominees just yet, but I’ve heard enough about No Country For Old Men to know that it was pretty bleak. And you know? I like upbeat. I like it more often than I like bleak, however well done. I was also hoping for Ellen Page to win Best Actress, but it was hard not to love Marion Cotillard’s enthusiasm for her win. And was I the only one to notice that Cate Blanchett looked positively delighted that Cotillard won?

Anyway, thing two is my friend Jim Wright has some beautiful wooden bowls he’s made for sale. Jim’s retired Navy and mostly bitches on his blog and turns beautiful bowls with his retirement. Both are delightful additions to this world, and you should probably go buy one of his bowls. I would, but sadly I’m not in the market right now. But they’re certainly on my list.

And now a picture:

Petosky in the morning

That’s the view from my hotel room when I was staying up in Petoskey, Michigan last week for work. Usually I hate driving into Northern Michigan during the snowy season, but every so often the views make it worth the trip. And two days of cold but sunny did wonders to improve my outlook. I’ve got a couple more, including one toward dusk, that I’ll upload to Flickr later.
