I, II, and III should have been still Vader’s story, but told with his surrogate father–Obi Wan–in the foreground. Again, Vader would be the antagonist of his own story, though here it would be in some respects the same inevitable spiral toward evil, but instead told as Obi-Wan’s efforts to prevent it. (Incidentally, I loved one of the first casting rumors I heard regarding Obi-Wan and that was getting Kenneth Brannagh in the part–better surrogate father material than Ewan, though I do love both as actors, and more likely to look like Sir Alec Guiness in 18 years.
